Why should you train Semi-Privately?
At Woven Performance Longevity the core of our offering is two services, one on one personal training and semi-private personal training.
At Woven every membership starts with three one on one sessions, which culminates in Woven’s comprehensive health and wellness program written specifically for you. Created by weaving together your goals, injury history and exercise history, we will take you through a movement screen and assess your fitness in several key areas. This allows us to personalize your program to account for the number of days we recommend training at Woven, as well as any additional cardio, yoga, or pilates sessions you could benefit from. As you train with Woven, this program will continue to evolve as your fitness improves or your goals and priorities change. Each time you attend a session with your coach it is an opportunity to assess your progress, and continue to fine tune this plan.
Our semi-private personal training offering combines the best of group fitness and one on one personal training. Once you have your program in hand, this option allows you to share the cost of your trainer, executing that program in small groups of 4-6. While we think one on one training can be an incredible fit for so many clients, at Woven we believe semi-private personal training is a much better fit for a much greater number of our clients. Let’s explain why.
At a fundamental level, sharing the cost of your training session with fellow members means that you can train more often. Whenever I meet with a potential new client, I always recommend training three times per week. Training three times a week with a coach is not only optimal from a program design perspective, the shift in mindset that accompanies such a change can be transformational. The problem is that it can be out of reach financially for many of us. And if that is the case we have to compromise, either on frequency or duration, neither of which is ideal. At a third of the cost, semi-private training is simply more affordable, which means we no longer have to compromise in the same way.
Training semi-privately also allows more flexibility for our clients. There are any number of reasons why someone might need to change their appointments for the week, but no matter how much your coach may want to accommodate, it’s often simply not possible. But in semi-private training you as the client are free to swap in and out of time slots as needed, outside of our 24 hour cancellation policy, because your coach has a defined schedule and more opening slots. New York City is a crazy place to live, and it’s important to us that our training fits into your life in every way possible.
One of the biggest differences between training semi-privately and one on one with your coach is the community. I loved working out with my friends back when I did group fitness, but unfortunately I kept getting injured. I hated doing programs that were not written for me, with exercises that did not feel good for my body, and I got way better results the second I started working with a coach. With semi-private personal training, you get a chance to be a part of a community full of like minded individuals in an environment conducive to forming real relationships with your fellow members, while not compromising on the effectiveness of your workout. And while accountability from your coach is one thing, accountability from your friends is something else completely.
Finally, semi-private personal training forms the type of client-coach relationship that we feel is much more conducive to long term success. For many personal training clients, their personal trainer does everything for them, which does not lead to the type of coaching relationship we find the most effective. At Woven we are after long term sustainable change, which does not happen unless the client is an active participant in their training. We want to empower our clients to be self-sufficient; we want our clients to train with us because they want to, not because they don’t feel comfortable without us. We want everyone to feel like they belong in the gym. With semi-private training, you have to be an active participant in your training to succeed. It is an absolute priority that every new client at Woven feels supported in the beginning of your journey at Woven, but after three to six months training semi-privately you should feel like you could walk into any gym and get an awesome workout.
