Why did we start woven? (Part 3)

But this story is wrong, and so Lisa and I rejected it. We don’t believe in exercise or nutrition plans that are unsustainable at Woven. Take weight loss for example; there are so many professionals in this field who claim it is actually impossible. But in all of the literature on the subject we see that we can lose weight on a variety of different diets. Whether you like low carb or low fat, keto or Atkins, 6 small meals a day or intermittent fasting, it works. The key is not some secret diet that you have not discovered yet, it's about implementing changes to your life that you feel comfortable sustaining for the rest of your life. Exercise is no different. There is no secret workout that is going to get you in amazing shape that you don’t know about. There are no mandatory exercises or workouts. The secret is in finding a type of exercise that you enjoy that can be sustained over a long period of time. The only exercise plan worth embarking on is one that you feel like you can sustain for the rest of your life and that’s why coaching at Woven is a partnership between you and your coach. Our goal is to create a program specifically for you that fits into your demanding life, not the other way around. As people we are not generally capable of making large changes to our lives in short periods of time. Think about how many New Year’s resolutions fail. But that’s why at Woven our coaching program involves the implementation of small habits, sometimes as little as five minutes a day, that cumulatively over long periods of time can transform your life.

At Woven we don’t believe in using shame as a motivational tactic. If you weren’t able to stick to your plan last week, it's on us as your coach to figure out why. We recognize the power that the patriarchy has in how we are ‘supposed’ to look and we reject it. If you want to lose weight or gain muscle we are here to help you do so, but we don’t believe that self hatred will ever lead to long lasting results. While there may be health benefits to losing weight, there are many scenarios in which the healthiest version of ourselves weighs more, not less. We reject the notion of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods and we reject any type of food rule that leads us to restrict food groups altogether. We believe that the dosage makes the poison and any food can fit into a healthy diet.

And last but not least, Woven is here to reframe exercise as a fixture of preventative healthcare. Woven is here to fill in the gaps of the medical and fitness industry as it is currently constituted. Being healthy does not need to be so complicated; we actually have a pretty clear idea of what we need to do on a daily basis. While we acknowledge we don’t have the answers, we know how to find those answers from trusted sources. Exercise is the most potent longevity drug we have and we want to encourage it in all forms. At Woven we are weaving together the threads of performance and longevity and creating a tapestry under one roof.

But knowing and doing are two very different things. At Woven we recognize the difficulty of the challenges facing us and want to make it as easy as possible for you to make exercise a part of our day to day lives. We want to make fitness as fun and enjoyable as we can. We want to create a space where our community can come together and actually enjoy the time they choose to spend in the gym. But no matter how accessible we make it, changing our lives is never going to be easy. There are sacrifices that we need to make to live a healthy vibrant life. Our goal at Woven is to make those tradeoffs as clear as possible and to advocate for our community to live their own healthiest version of their life. Every person should feel empowered with the knowledge to make the choices and tradeoffs that feel most aligned for them. Our goal at Woven is to create the systems of accountability that create the space for you to be the best version of yourself.
